Our early Mazer Brothers set consists of a jeweled scepter pin and a pair of pavé rhinestone crown earrings. The set is from the '40s, when public interest in the lifestyle and trappings of European royalty was it its height. Apart from Mazer Bros., other companies like Trifari and Coro produced their own series of coronation gems at the time, and Hollywood turned out romantic-historical movies about royalty.
Our bejeweled set is stately, stunning and regal. The scepter has faux rubies, amethyst, emeralds and diamonds set into a rhinestone pavé top and base. At the tip is a cross, a symbol of royalty. There is a gilt fluted segment around the middle. The scepter pin is 3 1/4" x 3/4", and has a locking c-clasp closure.
Each earring is a rhinestone-encrusted crown, with the same gemstone accents as the scepter. Almost 1" x 1"; the earrings are clipbacks.
Marked Mazer Bros. at the back of the pin and the earring clipbacks.
This is the earliest known mark of the company, which was founded in 1927 by Louis and Joseph Mazer. In 1946, Joseph left the company to form his own jewelry company; his pieces are marked Jomaz. Mazer Bros. pieces are rarer and command higher prices than later pieces.
Mazer Bros. coronation jewelry are considered highly collectible. Judith Miller's "Costume Jewelry" book features a crown pin by Mazer Bros.; value: $400-$480!
