Yep, this intricately beaded bangle bracelet is larger-than-life pretty, probably owing to the illustrious designers who made it: Stanley Hagler & Ian St. Gielar.
With its various shades of turquoise and black beads, and an ornate floral design, our hinged bangle is reminiscent of the best of Miriam Haskell, but is totally Hagler/St. Gielar in its explosion of color and opulence.
Hagler has been described as the "Picasso of jewelry", and his pieces dubbed "fit for a duchess" — in fact, his first piece was designed for Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor (whose husband gave up the British throne for her).
St. Gielar joined Hagler as chief desiger in the late '80s and continues the Hagler tradition of superbly-crafted and finely-embellished jewelry beyond Hagler's death in 1996. Our bracelet has two oval plaques, each bearing the names of Hagler and St. Gielar.
The bracelet is chunky and has two floral clusters on either side of the opening. Each cluster measures 2" x 2" and has big and small flowers made of glass beads, mostly seed beads but with a smattering of larger round ones plus a couple that are flower-shaped and translucent.
The colors are fantastic: deep turquoise, aquamarine, and cobalt blues accented by black beads and gilt trim.
The cuff part of the bracelet is all covered with hand-wired black beads, much like Haskell's. Only the hinged portion is "naked" and shows the gilt frame.
The inside of the bracelet shows the delicate filigree backing for the floral clusters. The designers' logos are on the back.
The bracelet is 2" wide at the floral portion and tapers to almost 3/4" at the base. It has a girth of 7" but will fit larger wrists if worn as a cuff.
Excellent condition. No wear at all. Colors are brilliant, and all beading is taut. It'd be like wearing a bracelet off the showroom floor!
