This bright and shimmery turquoise blue demi, a vintage Eugene, will take you there!
Our set, consisting of a two-strand necklace and a pair of earrings, have gorgeous turquoise blue lucite and glass beads that evokes an azure tropical sky or a deep aquamarine sea. Truly refreshing!
Apart from being fabulous, our demi is also highly collectible, as there are not too many Eugene pieces around. Eugene Schultz designed some of Miriam Haskell's early unsigned jewelry, before he formed his own jewelry company in 1952.
His jewelry is reminiscent of Haskell's. All his pieces were his own designs, and all were meticulously hand-made from the finest materials. At its height, the Eugene Jewelry company was sold at Saks Fifth and Neiman Marcus, and was featured in "The Perry Como Show". But the company was short-lived, surviving only a decade. Schultz himself died two years later, in 1964.
Our set shows the meticulous care taken in producing Eugene jewelry. Both necklace and earrings feature various size and kinds of lucite and glass beads, in colors ranging from pale to deep turquoise. The beads range in size from 7mm to 12mm. There are pearlescent deep turquoise beads and marbled and swirly ones, all lucite. Then, there are pale faceted ones with just a hint of iridescence, plus sapphire blue accent beads, also with aurora borealis coating; all glass.
The 18" long necklace alternates all these lovely beads over the two strands, with hand-knotting in between. There is a depth of about 1 1/2" across the two strands. The necklace has an extension chain consisting of smaller pearlescent beads. The tiny bars at the ends that hold the strands together, as well as the hook closure, have beautiful aqua baguette rhinestone accents.
Each earring has a trio of beads, one of each kind. The beads have tiny aqua rhinestone accents and have decorative prongs. About 3/4" x 3/4", and clipbacks.
Rich goldtone setting for both pieces. Only the earrings are signed; this is typical of Eugene sets — not all pieces are marked. Unmistakably matching, though.
Excellent condition, as if hardly used, as both pieces do not show signs of wear.
