Among his favorite designs are floral motifs, which reflect his personal love of gardens and the French countryside.
Our dated 1964 brooch belongs to that Dior genre of classic floral jewelry. Reminiscent of drippy flowers like the lily of the valley (Dior's signature flower motif), our organic-looking brooch features gilt branches with faux pearl drops and glitzy red and faux diamond rhinestones.
Elegant and classy, it has that look that matches beautifully your business as well as evening attires.
The pin is marked Made in Germany for Christian Dior, which indicates it might have made for him by Henkel & Grosse. But our pin also bears tell-tale signs of Henry Schreiner, who also designed pieces for Dior.
The pin is very 3-D and looks good from the top or the side. It features six organic-looking branches flaring out from a spiky center. These branches are antiqued and textured; they have smaller petal-like tips from which dangle teardrop-shaped faux pearls. These pearls look like ivory flower buds.
Peeking in between the gilt branches are large diamond-shaped rhinestones, in alternating colors of ruby red and faux diamonds. There are also small seed pearls and ruby red rhinestones accenting the spiky center.
The brooch measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" and 1" in depth, and has a locking c-clasp closure. Marked on an oval cartouche: "Made in Germany for Christian Dior" and "1964".
Although not marked as such, the pin could have been done for Dior by Schreiner. The pin bears Schreiner trademarks like its hook-and-eye construction in the back, the use of square rhinestones set to look like diamond shapes, and its 3-D quality.
Very good to excellent condition. The rhinestones are flawless, and the metal is excellent. However, a couple of pearls show minor flaking, which are not visible because they are either on the side or on the inside part of the pearls, on the back.
If you like the classic Dior style, here it is! I happen to be a Schreiner fan, that's why this brooch appeals to me. Either way, it's such a chic piece of jewelry that's hard to pass up!
