Our necklace and brooch set features wavy fern-like motifs that seem to be swaying gently in the breeze, their bright green and blue enamel glinting in the sunlight. There's poetry and rhythm in them leaves!
Boucher is famous for exquisite costume pieces that could be mistaken for fine jewelry. His greatest contribution is "revolutionizing" the costume jewelry industry by introducing pieces with movement and dimension. Before Boucher started in the '30s, everything looked flat and boring.
Our "tres chic" set was produced in the '60s and includes another Boucher "original", a necklace with a removable extension piece.
The necklace looks like a long fringe of curvy fern leaves, alternately enameled in translucent emerald green and sapphire blue. The goldtone base shows thru the enameling, and the leaves also have a thin goldtone border.
Each leaf is a separate link, so the necklace is highly articulated. Without the extension piece, the necklace is 15" long and almost 3/4" wide. The extension segment, which attaches via foldover clasps, adds an extra two inches to the length.
The brooch is a flower with long, fern-like petals that seem to undulate in all directions. The enameling also alternates on this piece, and each petal also has a thin gilt border. Measures 2 3/4" x 2 1/2".
Only the necklace is marked Boucher, but both have patent numbers dating to the '60s.
This set is in excellent condition, with little sign of wear. The enamel work is rich and intact.
