This multi-colored, multi-faux gemstone brooch by William deLillo does look like a big, round box of delectables, delightful to look at and — thank heavens! — calorie-free!
DeLillo creations are very rare to come by, and each piece you come across is as close to a "custom" as you can get.
DeLillo (who had worked for Tiffany, Cartier and Harry Winston) formed a partnership with Robert Clark (then head designer for Miriam Haskell) in the late '60s-mid '70s, and together, they created a magnificent collection of very limited jewelry, mostly, according to deLillo, custom-made for an "elite clientele". Because they are scarce, the company's pieces are also oh-so-pricey!
One of deLillo's best known patrons was Hollywood star Ann Miller, who owned a number of his dazzling parures. When she died and her fabulous collection was auctioned off; among the pieces that fetched the highest prices were deLillos.
Our brooch is a whooping 3" round with a hodgepodge of faux gems in glass and lucite and in all colors and shapes. There's onyx, pink and red ruby, clear diamond, aquamarine, topaz, citrine, sapphire, amethyst, peridot and aurora borealis. They come as round, oval and rectangular cabochons, faceted rounds, teardrops and emerald-cut.
The stones are set in shiny silvertone, barely noticeable as a thin rope border from the front of the brooch, but super shiny from the back. The bigger stones have open backs.
Our brooch is marked deLillo in script within an oval cartouche at the back. It has a locking c-clasp closure. In excellent condition; judging from the pristine condition of the back, probably rarely or not used at all.
Because it practically has all colors within, this eye candy brooch will accent practically your entire wardrobe. Now, that's hard to beat!
