Research reveals that Rena Rosenthal was a retailer of luxury gift items in her fashionable shop at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City in the '40s and '50s. She commissioned many items exclusively for her shop, and sold pieces that were designed by such artists and workshops as Bosse, Baller and Hagenauer, and signed with her initials, RR.
This is a sculptural piece with art deco styling and gilt accents, and is attributed to Hagenauer, an Austrian studio that created pieces exclusively for Rena Rosenthal.
The Nubian is a bronze sculpture holding bakelite torches in gorgeous warm shades of cherry red, forest green and brown. The sculpture is 4 inches high, and each torch is 4 3/4 inches long. I would describe the condition as excellent.
