36" x 36" (91.5 x 91.5 cm) Perfect Condition!
This fine Silk Square not only lists "April the Fifth" ridden by F. Lane but all other DERBY (as this Derby is referred to) winners since it began in 1780 when Diomed was the 1st. The silk is titled at the bottom on the blue margin: "WINNERS of the DERBY from the COMMENCEMENT in 1780". Studying the various decals one comes across many illustrious names from the British Aristocracy. A quick read discovers that the 1909 winner was the property of H.M. THE KING, others of the Prince of Wales, Dukes of Westminster, York & Bedford as well as prominent names such as Rothschild.
The silk is in excellent condition. There is no fading to the pink tinting nor to the royal blue border. No rips, tears or damage of any kind.
Please google the EPSOM DERBY for extensive information re its history.
Please click "Larger Views" for closer inspection.
