c1900 exquisitely crafted inlays based on scenes of ancient Pompeii which is typical of the work of Sorrento's artisans. Burled & birds eye fruit woods as well as olive wood were used in the creation of this lovely expandable desktop bookshelf or book slide. A pair of delicate griffins adorn each of the ends. Note that the marquetry has been traced in grey with fine brush strokes. The piece is in excellent condition & working order. There is a tiny crack on the base which I've pointed out in one of my photos. A refined & elegant object. Not marked.
