For All the Beautiful Ladies, Past and Present! Offers & Layaways Welcome!
Exquisite Large Victorian black Chantilly lace Lady's Parasol, C 1875. This rare and stunning parasol once belonged to a fashionable Victorian Society Lady. Madam would have used this to shield her delicate, porcelain skin from the elements while riding in a carriage or perhaps strolling along with her husband or significant other. A magnificently large Parasol covered in ornate black Chantilly Lace with an ornate black Chantilly lace border hanging from the edges. The silk lining is in excellent condition with only a very tiny mend spot (mended a very long time ago). It also retains a beautiful black crocheted tassel closure. The gorgeous handle is of carved, ebonized wood. The shaft and finial are also ebonized wood. This magnificent Victorian Parasol measures 34 1/4" from finial to end of handle and 29" in diameter (not including the hanging lace border). The mid 19th century saw parasols that tended to be small (40-50 cm in diameter and 50-60 cm long) and covered in silk with a fringe or ruffle. Towards the end of the 19th century, shafts grew longer. Originally, the spokes consisted of wood, from the 18th century on of whalebone, and from about the mid-19th century of metal.(Please see my shop for one other fabulous Parasol!) This wonderful Parasol is in EXCELLENT condition with no damage, no tears or holes. The lace is in EXTRAORDINARY condition. Someone cherished this and used tender loving care with this fantastic antique beauty. We live in a smoke-free, pet-free environment. We guarantee this item to be free of any offending odors.
