Rare French Footed Wine Tankard Gilt, Grapes and Grape Leaves Serving Tray With Six Pedestal Cups, C1890. This is a very rare footed wine tankard complete with six pedestal cups and double handled serving tray. Most definitely from the Limoges area, footed tankards like this beauty are rarely seen. This monumental tankard stands 14 1/2" tall on four fancy scrolling gold feet. All masterfully handpainted by a 19th Century Artist. The Artist has painted beautiful clusters of purple grapes, grape leaves and grape vines with trailing tendrils against a sky blue background with autumn highlights of lavender, pink, pale yellow and teal. This would have made a lovely presentation for serving wine in an elegant Victorian setting. The Artist has heavily gilded the handle, graceful feet and rim of the tankard and edged the rims of the pedestal mugs and the tray in gold. The large, double handled serving tray measures 16 1/2" long and 9 1/2" wide. Each pedestal cup measures 5" tall and measures 3 1/8" in diameter. This exceptionally rare set is in Excellent conditions with no chips, cracks or hairlines. There is no wear to the hand painting or to the gold. Slight imperfection from the factory on two of the cups under the gold glazed rims. This French heirloom wine service still makes as elegant an Art Nouveau presentation today as it did when it was painted approximately 115 years ago.
