From a Beverly Hills Estate, we offer this Rare French Guilloche Enamel and Bronze Vanity Powder Box with Hand Painted Portrait on Ivory and Crystal Insert, 19th C. A magnificent antique 19th century French bronze powder box adorned with a miniature portrait on ivory of a beautifully gowned woman against a background of blue sky, clouds and a tree. Though unsigned, it is very finely hand painted. The portrait is set under its original convex glass which is surrounded by four Guilloche Enamel plaques in a deep, vibrant salmon pink or red. The fine Guilloche Enamel plaques are protected under glass as well! Absolutely gorgeous! Ornate strands of gilded bellflowers and swirling feathers surround the stunning portrait and guilloche enamel. The side of the lid features a repousse vine & leaf design while the side of the box has a very ornate openwork bellflower and flower design alternating with a floral panel which allows you to see the beautiful crystal insert. The lid opens to reveal the original beveled mirror and the original french crystal insert with a fine floral pontil on the bottom. Both mirror and crystal insert are in Excellent condition with only slight silvering to the mirror. The rim of the crystal is completely smooth, no rough edges. The lid opens easily and closes tightly. There are no dents or dings, no damage. There are some spots of camera glare along the top of the portrait. There is no damage, fading or discoloration to the portrait. This unusual beauty measures 3 3/4" in diameter and 3" tall with the portrait measuring 2" in diameter. Marked France on the bottom, this is quite a heavy piece. You see quite a few mirror and brush sets of this design and quality but very rarely a powder or dresser box of this heirloom quality.
