George Jones Abbey Pattern Blue Transferware Dinner Plate
A fine blue transferware dinner plate in the Abbey pattern. This pattern was originally produced by William Adams as Abbey Wreath in the 1840's. George Jones & Sons bought the Adams pattern in 1861. They began producing Abbey in 1901 and continued into the 30's.
This plate, which is printed in a strong cobalt blue is on a white ironstone blank with a scalloped edge.
It's 10.375" in diameter.
Condition: there a printing error along the right edge of the center medallion and scattered spots of cobalt on the back. There are a handful of very short utensil marks (each less than 0.125"), otherwise fine.
Marked on the back with a large printed mark Reading "Abbey / 1790 / England". Impressed GJ mark identifies the pottery.
