Gorham Silverplate Roman Trulla
A fine copy of an ancient Roman spouted vessel known as a trulla. It was produced in the 1960's by Gorham for the Horizon book and magazine publishers. The original is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, who also participated in the process.
The purpose of this form of trulla is still a matter of discussion in ancient Roman art circles. Some think it was used like a pap boat, while others feel it had a ceremonial purpose.
This modern example, which is silverplate over brass, is 5.25" long, 4.25" in diameter and 2.875" high.
Condition: fine, no wear or damage.
Marked on the bottom: Roman Trulla / First Century BC / The Metropolitan Museum of Art / by Gorham for Horizon.
