A fine large enameled metal (probably copper) charger or wall hanging designed by and made for Sasha Brastoff, the Mid-century Modern designer. This example is decorated with strong colors -blues, greens and gold- in a biomorphic abstract design. The white and green areas of the decoration are actually raised from the surface. These were made in the 1930's as part of a tableware and hospitality line Chase developed as an attempt to expand their business. Here's a really nice pair of cast iron bookends in the shape of elephants. They are listed in the "Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends" as plate 894 on page 146. They are cast iron, with a bronze finish. They are 4" tall and 5" long. Both are marked on the back with a number: 134. Condition: green felt on the bottoms is showing its age, otherwise fine.

This particular plate is illustrated in Leslie Pina's "Designed & Signed" book on page 136.
