In the days before air conditioning, ladies carried a fan as a fashionable and functional accessory. There are even published accounts of a secret “language of the fan” from the 19th century and earlier!

This fan dates to the early 20th century and is made of imitation tortoiseshell and black ostrich feathers.

Measures 13 ½” wide when extended and is 9” high.

Condition is exceptionally nice – excellent except for one ostrich feather which has broken off. This is, fortunately, hardly noticeable until inspected closely. (See photos)
