In sturdy, clean condition, this skirt once closed up the back with 4 very large hooks and eyes, but only one remains, and it seems to have been moved to enlarge the waist size.
The gored skirt panels have large pleats to add a flair to the hemline. The seams are bound with brown cotton. Decorative panels near the waistline are accented with self-fabric buttons. Two of these are missing, but they are both missing opposite each other, so are not very noticeable. There are several moth bite holes, all about the size of a pencil eraser or smaller, scattered about the skirt. I’ve displayed the skirt over a white petticoat and a late Victorian bustle (NOT included) and lightened the photos to try to show the lightweight nature of the fabric. The self-fabric hem is turned and is slightly frayed at the bottom. A small section of the hem needs re-sewn.
In very good condition, and quite wearable, with only very minor flaws, this late Victorian lightweight walking skirt is quite desirable. When displayed with a black petticoat, the moth bites will never show!
Shown paired in one photo with our stock #50656, the crushed velvet jacket, which is NOT included but may be available separately. Petticoat and bustle may also be available separately.
Approximate measurements are given for reference purposes only as we do not recommend wearing garments of this age.
