Rare and hard to find 1942 WWII First Edition (stated) sewing book, 'Make and Mend For Victory', published by The Spool Cotton Co. and the government's Office of Price Administration. Repurposing and extending the life of the family's garments was seen as part of the War effort and became a very important task for the homemaker. The book's foreward spelled it out in clear terms in the Consumer's Victory Pledge. The rest of the 50 pages have unique and valuable chapters on: Preparing Your Sewing Basket, How To Mend and Patch, Darning, Making Beautiful Collars, How To Restyle and Alter, How To Convert A Man's Suit Into A Woman's Suit, How To Reclaim Used Wool, and much more. In these hard economic times, once again books like this are worth their weight in gold! Lots of gorgeous period photographs in black and white as well as many illustrations.
