Stunning EUROPEAN CUT Purple Glass Cabochon & Rhinestone Drop Necklace

Stunning old deep purple faceted glass and rhinestone choker necklace, with huge 3/4" prong set European Cut stones in the center of the drop. The rare and beautiful European Cut glass stones and the potmetal settings date the necklace to the late 1890s-1910, according to C. Jeanenne Bell in her jewelry guide, 'How To Be A Jewelry Detective'. The quality and depth of the purple color found in these early Czech glass unfoiled rhinestones is also amazing, the stones mounted in unusual square settings. There is minor patina to the potmetal necklace back. The J-hook is brass, most likely replaced at some point in its long life. The 15" choker necklace is in Excellent condition, created for the slender, swan-like necks of that elegant era.
