Offering this superb example of a California landscape executed in a distinctive impressionistic style by the listed California artist Cyrus Bates Currier (1868-1946). This is an original oil on canvas painting on stretcher presented in a period gold frame. The size of the canvas is approximately 16 x 20 inches. The painting surface is in very good condition with no signs of flaking. The appears to be only one small repair to the back of the canvas with wax (less than the size of a dime). This work is clean and bright, ready to hang. Signed by the artist in the lower left corner. As you can see in the photo, this work has lots of nice thickly applied paint which gives the surface a great texture. A very nice looking western landscape worthy of a great collection. Currier was born in 1868 in Marietta, Ohio. He studied in Paris at the Académie Julian and with Mucha, Bouguereau and Constant. He settled in Los Angeles about 1919 and lived there until his death Sept. 27, 1946. He was the brother of artist Edward W. Currier. Member: Salmagundi Club. FId; SCA; AAA 1919-33; WWAA 1938-47. Currier is listed in numerous art reference books including Who Was Who in American Art, Artists of California, The Dictionary of American Artists, and Artists of the American West just to name a few.
