Fine Interior Forest Scene, Dated 1882 and Signed Indistinctly

Fine original oil on canvas painting signed in the lower right corner and dated 1882. This painting measures 13 x 20 ¼ inches approximately (actual size of the painting). The overall size of the painting including the frame is 20 x 27 inches. The painting is in very good condition with no significant condition problems to note. Nice stable paint surface. The frame appears original to the painting and is good condition with a few minor nicks and scratches. The frame appears to have been touched up with gold paint at some time in its past. This said, the painting displays fine with the frame as is. A very nice interior forest scene with a waterfall in the background. The scene looks like it may be an old rock quarry accounting for the many square stones. This is a darker painting with very nice handling of the light coming through the trees. The sky area of the painting appears to be really well done. The painting is signed as you can see in the photos, however, it is difficult to make out the exact signature. Judging from the level of detail and the handling of the paint, the artist appears to be professional trained and is perhaps a listed artist. A very nice example of late 19th century American painting.
