Tunbridge Ware Needle Case Sewing Kit – c. 1880

Tunbridge ware is made by attaching different shapes and colors of wood together for design interest. It is then applied to the item as a veneer that resembles Marquetry or Parquetry. The needle case is inlaid with diamond shaped pieces of Tunbridge Ware designating a zig-zag pattern. On the inside, the artist applied the same method and a checker board design. The case has a purple velvet spine. For its age, it is in good condition. The case measures approximately 2 ½” by 1 ¾”; opened, 3 ¾” by 2 ½.”
