I honestly never planned or expected to sell this. How many original works are available by Dali? But times are what they are.
I purchased this from Jean-Paul Loup in 1986. He was a dealer that I purchased many high end pieces for our own collection, and as an investment. I have all the correspondence, as well as the certificate which was dated June 17, 1962, at the Dali Museum in Figueres, Spain, and signed by Dali himself. It is written on the back of a photo of this piece. The translation Jean-Paul offered reads as follows:
"By the photograph on the reverse I declare that this is a work done in 1954 and signed by myself, Salvador Dali."
You can see the D (for Dali) and the G (for Gala) in the drawing. (I understand that Dali "signed" this way occasionally, Gala, his wife and muse, who was eleven years his senior, was the love of his life).
Jean-Paul had it framed before shipping to me at the Village Art Gallery of Skokie. I have never had it out of the frame.
Sight area measures 8 inches by 5 and 1/2 inches. Framed
it measures 18 inches by 15 inches.
