This is an impressive Chinese copper repousse plate dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). This outstanding artwork shows the central image of a pair of dragon fish, executed in high relief. DATE: Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912).

MATERIAL: Copper repousse. Gold.

MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUE: Fine repousse, embossing and chase work. Fire gilding.

CONDITION: Very good ORIGINAL as found condition with minor nicks & dents as well as extensive encrustation. Beautiful patina! NO RESTORATION! Please see all pictures as they illustrate the condition very accurately.

SIZE: Diameter is 9.7 inches. (asia 41sz) This outstanding plate has been crafted with much attention for detail. Made out of copper in repousse work, it boasts a beautiful malachite patina and is partially fire gilt. It boasts a raised and undulated rim that is adorned with lotuses as well as berries and leafs executed in high relief. The floral decoration is continued in the deepening of the plate.

In the center of the plate we find the vivid portrayals of two dragon fish swimming around the Magical pearl. The spirited animal portraits showcase very high relief and are entirely fire gilt.

The fine combination of the fire gilding, the detailed chase work and the beautiful Malachite patina add very well to the exquisite overall appearance of this plate!
