This painting, oil on canvas, is signed "PJB", an unidentified European artist. It is dated 1892.
This portrait of a deeply sympathetic looking gentleman of the late 19th century simply draws the viewer to speculate as to the subject. He is dressed in a brown coat with waistcoat and a peaked cap. He mouth is slightly open and his look is somehow introverted. He has a clay bust in his hand suggesting that he is an artist.
Size without frame:
The picture is 46 cm / 18 inches high and 61 cm / 24 inches wide.
The frame itself is 9 cm / 3.5 inches wide.
Condition:
There are stretcher marks right and left, a little surface grime and abrations.
The frame The frame is a beautiful golden wooden frame with a white patina and in a very good condition with minor scratches. Ready to hang.
