This wonderfully portrayed character wall mask was introduced in two models in 1966. This is the larger of the two, 8 inches high, with authentically portrayed medals for valor on the tunic. The Beefeaters, or Yeomen Warders, are more properly called The Queen's Bodyguard of the Yeoman of the Guard. The most senior of the personal forces of the Monarch, the Queen's Bodyguard of the Yeoman of the Guard is the oldest military corps in the world. Formally established nearly 500 years ago, it had existed in various forms and with various titles for 300 years before that. The Yeomen of the Guard form a bodyguard to the king or queen of Great Britain. Years ago the Yeomen Warders of the Tower of London were nicknamed "Beefeaters." This may have started in Tudor days, when servants ate their master's beef in large quantities. Much more information is in The Imagical World Of Bossons, by Robert E. Davis, on pages 66 and 67, and pictured on Page 141. This is in Excellent Condition.
