This fine 19th Century watercolor in antique giltwood frame is signed in monogram "HTh" for an unidentified European artist. It is an intimate-sized vibrant watercolor of Adam and Eve tempted by the serpent - who with female attributes clings to the tree of knowledge. Eve turns her back to the viewer, while Adam is seen in profile, his nudity covered by Eve at his side. On the left, a stag comfortably rests on the forest floor, a sign that all innocence is not yet lost, as Eve has not yet let herself be completely tempted.
The painting is watercolor on paper with body color highlights, mounted and framed.
The picture is 6.75 inches high and 9 inches wide.
The passepartout measures 1.5 inches. The frame itself is 2 inches wide.
The painting is in good condition and is preserved behind glass. The moulded giltwood frame is in very good condition with minor abrasions and signs of wear appropriate to its age.
The painting was authenticated by art expert Mesa Bajric.
