Each of Antonio Borsato's pieces speak for themselves, in their incredible details; especially in their expressions. Borsato was able to capture humor as well as pathos. Since he was such a perfectionist, each piece is individual. What a loss to the world when he died so tragically in an automobile accident in 1982 at the height of his career. This marvelous large head is the only one I have ever seen in the U. S. I believe it was a European release. It is especially interesting for the sharpness of the ends of the moustache and plumes on his hat. It is amazing that there are no cracks or chips or other losses to this piece, since that sharpness to the very end of the moustache and plumes makes this piece more apt to be damaged. But every detail, including the red nose (!) works with all others for the total effect of the creation. Antonio Borsato is arguably the greatest porcelain artist of the 20th Century. I believe he surpassed his mentor, Cacciapuoti, although the prices of Borsato's works have not caught up to those of his teacher in many cases; those of his ladies in particular, and other smaller works. This wonderful bust stands 9 inches tall, and is 12 inches across and is in Excellent Condition.
