What a lovely and useful piece of history! This is actually a bell from inside an old house, for ringing for a servant. This kind of bell would hang up in the upper corner of a room, and had a textile pull-handle that dangled down to reachable level. Through the walls, the bell was connected mechanically to another bell in the servants' quarters, and when it rang, the servant better come running! This is nearly 150 years old, and still in very good shape! Beautiful tone to the bell. About 9 inches by 5 inches.
