Very rare form Emeralite desk lamp by H.G. McFadden of Brooklyn, N.Y. ca 1920. It is signed on the top of the shaft behind the shade, "Emeralite #9". The lamp base is a huge, heavy, and beautiful marble slab measuring 14 3/4" by 8 1/2" and it is 1 1/4" thick. The marble has an indented section in the front for pen storage. It is supported by four heavy brass/bronze claw feet, which are scroll and floral decorated. The inkwells are like no others. They are heavy brass/bronze measuring 3 1/2" square at their base, and 3" high. Each side has a wonderful eagle on it . The pens are Wahl-Eversharp which is the proper and only pen used by this maker. Connecting the base with the shade fitter is the standard brass four sided shaft seen on many of these lamps.. It has a two bulb fixture with a switch at the bottom of the shaft in the front. The shade is a rare black Emeralite matching the base perfectly. The shade is opaque, and is 10 1/4 long and 5" deep. It is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks. This is a monumental, beautiful, and very rare example of the finest desk lamps made by H.G. McFadden.
