Exquisite Antique French Sterling Silver Belt Buckle

Breathtaking detail on this fabulous antique buckle! Heavy (70 grams) sterling silver with open-work frame decorated with swirling florals and leaves. Measures 3 3/8" by 2 1/2" in height. While examining this for marks I just knew it must be French in origin. I found a very tiny mark on the back of both the right and the left portion of the piece but it was clogged with black patina and I was unable to read. After photographing, I did one more quick once over, this time finding a mark on the side edge of each bar. One of those marks I was able to read and research. A tiny diamond shape with "E a swan L". Identified as French silver mark at an on-line encyclopedia of silver marks (feel free to inquire and I can supply a link). The mark along with others was listed under heading "Typical Silver Marks Late 18th Century to Present". Condition is excellent, original patina intact.
