Gemma Traversi (1902-1968) was born in Italy and settled as a child in the SF Bay area. I believe she lived in the Santa Rosa Petaluma area.

She was a sculptor who has had her work auctioned over the years.

This is a special figurine. She represents the Mary- Madonna from the Catholic Church.

I know nothing more about her as far as her white gown/cloak, standing with hands in prayer position and the world hanging from her chain.

She is in great condition.

When you look at the photo of her face, near her veil you will see what could look like chipping- it isn't. This is where the glaze meets the unglazed area- her face and hair.

She is what I'd consider rare since I could not find another like her, nor could I find any of Gemma Traversi's work other than they have been auctioned.

Her height is 11 1/2 inches Her gown across the front is 7 1/2 inches Her base is 5 inches across and 4 1/4 inches from front to back. The height of her platform is 3/4 of an inch.

Her base has a gold glaze finish along with gold leaves drawn on ther cloak.

The Earth ball is silver.

I believe the gold and silver is actually a gold and silver glaze or pen used.

I can not say for sure but I have used these elements when using glazes in the past.

It truly is a beauty.
