Great care was given to the composition of the background also. To add contrast to the main feature, the background was painted in a degrade of colors – from an off-white, to cream, to soft yellow, to light green, to yellow-green, to moss green, to light blue, to a dark dusty rose. The face of the plate is signed ‘Barbot’.
The rim of this gorgeous plate has a generous band of gilding which has withstood time. It, as well as the plate itself, are in excellent condition with very little wear and no chips, nicks, cracks, or repairs.
The underside of the plate is marked with a variation of the ‘Old Abbey, Limoges’, Mark 3, used from 1908 to 1913, as well as, a ‘France, M de M, Limoges’ (Mavaleix) mark used between 1908 and 1914. It also has a ‘Hand Painted’ stamp in red.
