When Victorian “society” dictated that women DECORATE! They did it with wonder! This creativity brought “Crazy Quilts” into being. The less you had to do around the house, the more elaborate the designs and embroidery became.

The fabrics and workmanship in this quilt indicate that it comes from that wonderful era. Mostly wool, velvet and some cotton, this comes from the melancholy era. And most certainly before dyes became more stable in fabric. Take a look at the needlework in this piece. It is neat, small and creative.

This silk, velvet and cotton quilt is simply spectacular. It has never been used. We can tell because it is made “on foundation” which is sturdy muslin and has never been backed. There are a few moth bites in the fabric which in no way detract from this beauty.
