An Eccletic Array of Vintage & Antique Costume Estate Native American & Mexican Jewelry + Accessories & Collectibles
This Lovely Native American Rug features a 3-dimensional design that reminds me of work by the famous graphic artist, Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972). The perspective and architectural aspects of this rug would make a fine wall hanging. When looking at this piece be prepared to see many different patterns & objects. I can also see a row of Jacobs Ladders.
This Vintage 1950s Native American Navajo Rug features a heavy weave of (9) Warps by (17) Wefts to the square inch, of natural white, light brown and over-dyed black yarns of hand spun wool.
The Rug measures 36 x 56 and being Hand Woven is approximately 1/2 inch wider in the center than at either end.
An approximately 2 inch wide black border encloses the very striking geometric, 3-dimensional field. This Rug is a very interesting wall decoration with its fantastic eye-catching design. The Rug is very formidable with a heavy weave and can stand to be used on the floor.
Excellent Condition with the exception of a tiny slight worn area of 1/2 on one of the light brown blocks (please see photos for a close up of this area). This Rug is from the Western Reservation. Please see the map for more details of this area.
Many Rugs are displayed on the wall as Fine Art as the case with this one. There are no repairs. There is no odor to the rug; it comes from a smoke-free environment. We have been in our Family Oriental Rug Business since the 1930's.
I have included a Comparison Chart (the last of the photos) for the value and appreciation of Navajo Rugs from 1978 2005. This chart was taken from Rugs & Posts authored by H.L. James; The story of Navajo Weaving and Indian Trading.
