From our Private Collection comes this Vintage Mid Century Native American Navajo Rug which features finely carded natural grey, white and enhanced or “over dyed” black wool make up this beautiful Storm Pattern Designed from Western Reservation. Please see the map for more details of this area.

This Rug features a fine weave of 10 warps by 25 wefts to the inch. The wool is hand-spun and hand-woven of 100% Wool. Notice that one of the ends has a special treatment of additional 1” salvage. If you desire to hang this rug this would be the appropriate end to hang it from. Please see photo.

This Rug has always been a wall hanging and consequently there is no wear with a clean, crisp design.

NOTE: Regarding the Storm Pattern: the general inclination of the origin of the “Storm Pattern” is to consider it symbolic, although the symbolism appears to have been conceived by the “white man”. The alleged sacredness of the rug is that the center square is the “Hogan” or center of the World, and that the (4) squares at each of the corners represent the (4) Sacred Mountains of Navajo Mythology.

The connecting lines, usually zigzagged, are intended as lightning bolts carrying blessings back and forth between the squares, thereby delivering good spirits on the weaver’s household. There are also stylized spiders and rolling logs - as with all of the Native American Culture and their Art - their Rugs, Pottery and Jewelry are all very symbolic in nature.

Size: 32" x 52" - 2'8" x 4'4"

Many Rugs are displayed on the wall as Fine Art as the case with this one. It has never been on the floor. The Rug is in Pristine Condition. There is no wear and no repairs. There is no odor to the rug; it comes from a smoke-free environment. We have been in our Family Oriental Rug Business since the 1930's.

I have included a Comparison Chart (the last of the photos) for the value and appreciation of Navajo Rugs for 1978 – 2005. This chart was taken from “Rugs & Posts” authored by H.L. James. The story of Navajo Weaving and Indian Trading.

Shipping is included. Buyer is responsible for insurance. We have been in our Family Oriental Rug Business since the 1930's.
