About Us
A Blend of Romantic to Rustic from the Last Century
Like many of you, I love it all!
My love for all things old began as a high school student, when my mother invited me along on her weekly antiquing excursions. Over the last 35 years I have come to realize that for me, collecting is really the acquisition of memories in solid form. I can not remember where I last placed my sunglasses, but I seem to have almost total recall as to where I acquired a favorite piece, who I was with that day, and what provenance was passed along by its previous owner.
Worldly things come and go, and I've learned that what always remains are the precious stories I’ve also been collecting along the way: “Oh, my brother (& sister-in-law) gave me that old sterling pin when we turned 21,” “My husband surprised me those old turkey plates for Christmas one year, and I had to patiently wait 11 months to set the table with them,” “My teenage son stopped at a neighborhood auction one Saturday and won those antique bird prints for me…” Yes, my old things all have stories to tell -- one is about generations past, and the other is my own. No wonder I love it all!
A little more about me:
I seemed destined to be attracted to other people’s things, as I even share my day of birth with a twin brother. Our family moved frequently as my father served 20 years in the US Navy, Submarine Service. This resulted in a lot of “giving away” every three years prior to packing, and may explain my family’s desire to hold on to & preserve little pieces of the past.
As a young adult, I accepted a position as a book designer with Collector Book’s, the antiques & collectibles reference book division of Schroeder Publishing. One of my early design assignments with CB was the annual Schroeder’s Price Guide. With each new book I was given to design, I was introduced to another line of antique collectibles -- resulting in my starting numerous small collections. (I “retired” from their American Quilter’s Society division after 14 years of designing books on quiltmaking, and producing the international magazine, American Quilter.)
My son attended his first antiques show when he was a month old, and eventually became my “little picker” as he would dart ahead of me in a shop hoping to spot something that we might add to one of our collections. Now he is a UK graduate living in Lexington, and has a fine collection of horse-racing memorabilia of his own; Yet another generation to appreciate and preserve these little mementos of the past.
So, browse the shop often as I'll be adding items each week (usually on Friday). I'll continue to supply old "treasures," you add the next story line!
