Mann Gallery: providing high quality, affordable fine crafts for the sophisticated & discerning buyer since 1984.
Purchased in the 50's from a an elegant and upscale Boston designer hat shop, (ah, remember millinary departments and hat shops!) this piece is probably supposed to be worn up on one side and pinned on the head flat in the back, more laying on the head than fitting around it. (See the photos).
The double crown topknot is approximately 2 inches across by one inch high and is heavily beaded with dark silver color seed beads.
The inside grosgrain ribbon was cut at intervals in order to wear it as a tam but it is only 20 inches around. This could be easily replaced if the wearer wanted to. the hat measures about ten inches across the top.
The label has fallen off, the original thread is still in the grosgrain strip.
