This is a 16" dancer, Mohini Attam (Kerala). This figure has been created by the same artist hands which won the First prize-Golden Peacock Feather-at the Dolls Biennale held in Cracow, Poland, in 1980. This is the actual piece whose photographs are used in textbooks in India to represent the different costumes and lifestyles of the various regions. (See our many photos). You cannot find this artist's works anywhere here in the USA!
The original workshop creating this piece was established for the purpose of exchanging ethnic figurals with from museums all over the world.
This is NOT a commercial product and the artwork is heavily subsidized by the government of India and extremely hard to find! The base material used is Papier Mache and a terra cotta like material.
