The book is titled Manual for the Use of The Legislature of The State of New York 1892. It has the potential for being a “dry read” but to its credit there are diagrams of the capital building and colored maps of the state that make it much more interesting.

The front of the book has two fold out diagrams of the Senate Chamber & Assembly Chamber. The paper is thin and a little fragile with a short tear where it is attached to the book. Then there is a drawing of the Capital Building with horse and buggy traffic in front. The title page is very pretty.

In the back of the book are four fold-out diagrams of the Ground Floor, Entrance Floor, Principal Floor and Gallery Floor. These diagrams are all in nice shape and have separated from the book along the glue line.

I was pretty pleased with all of these bonus diagrams but then I started paging through the book and discovered colored maps. I have spotted five maps of the State of NY showing: 34 Congressional Districts, 32 Senatorial Districts, Numbers of Members of the Assembly, Judicial Districts, and my favorite Hospital Districts. This map caught my eye as Willard State Hospital District is prominently represented. Willard Hospital near Seneca Lake was the local Insane Asylum (always a spooky place to drive by).

These maps would frame up nicely. They are 8in. by 6-1/4in. The book is approximately 4-1/4in. by 6-1/2in. It is 1-3/4in. thick. There are 907 pages. The cover has some wear. It has the name Frank Brown, Esq. Compliments of Everett Brown on the cover.
