R.S. Prussia – Tillowitz Plate with Bird

This perky nuthatch clings to a branch that scarcely seems thick enough to hold him, but he doesn’t seem to care. The branch is filled with pink blossoms and spring has arrived! This plate bears the R.S. Tillowitz mark which was used by the Reinhold Schlegelmilch company during the 1930s and into the 40s.

This plate measures 9 3/4" in diameter and has two cut out handles. The wide rim is lusterware with an interesting geometric pattern around the edge. The bird, blossoms and leaves are decals while the branches appear to be hand painted.

Condition is very good, although there are some rubbed areas, particularly on the lusterware, and some surface scratching on the face of the plate. The bird decal is in nice condition.

Although the mold is simple, the bird is cheerful and very decorative. We have another small plate with the same bird, although very different in appearance.
