RS Germany (Tillowitz) Bowl with Mill Scene

This pretty scenic bowl has the RS Tillowitz/Silesia mark and dates to the early 1930s. The border has a luster glaze. The image is one of two Mill scenes found on RS Germany marked dishes – they are not the same Mill scenes found on RS Prussia marked dishes. This one presumably shows the mill from the back, as the water wheel can’t be seen. Similar dishes can be seen in Gaston’s ‘Collector’s Encyclopedia of RS Prussia: Fourth Series’ on page 74.

Condition of this plate is very good. There is a small rubbed spot on the image, and a few small spots on the rim where the glaze has lightened – one that is noticeable, as can be seen in the photos. There are a few tiny spots where the black trim around the rim is missing. There are no cracks, chips or significant scratches. It measures 10” across, and about 2 1/4" high.

Although not as ornate as many of the RS Prussia marked pieces, this bowl has a subtle beauty, accentuated by the nice luster band and dark edging on either side of that band. A nice addition to an RS Germany collection.
