A spring bouquet welcomes you from this lovely and highly desirable cobalt RS Prussia bowl. The bowl bears the Steeple Mark #3 (based on Mary Frank Gaston’s numbering system). It was made in the Steeple Mold #17 (again, based on Gaston’s numbering). This bowl is loaded with gold trim and little flowers.

Condition is very good to excellent. It looks as though there was gold all along the outside rim; most of this has been rubbed away. Otherwise, the gold decoration is pretty much all intact – just a little fading on some of the leaf sprays behind the flowers. There are no chips, cracks or scratches. The little gold flowers are all still there, as is the gold trim on the raised areas of the mold. Measurement is 10” in diameter, and 3” in depth.

Examples of similar dishes with this floral pattern can be seen on pages 62 and 63 of Mary McCaslin’s ‘R.S. Prussia and More.’ This particular bowl is especially beautiful because of the ornate mold that allowed for so much gold detail to shine against the blue.
