This pretty syrup pitcher with under plate is the perfect blend of simple and ornate. The mold shape has clean, elegant lines but the decoration is quite detailed and ornate. It was decorated with a combination of decal and hand painted gold embellishment. The decaled roses began as red, and were painted over with gold so that just portions of red show through. The leaves are also embellished with gold trim. A shadow foliage effect, used often in RS Prussia and Germany porcelain, can be seen behind the roses and green leaves. A delicate gold design is painted around the top of the pot and around the bottom of the lid. The background color is cream that shades to a light mocha color at the top.

The under plate has just one simple rose bud with leaves. It was, after all, meant to be under the pitcher. Both are marked with the blue star and wreath RS Germany mark, along with “Handpainted” and “MW Co.” The MW Co. is the mark of Montgomery Ward, which would have imported this little beauty to the United States.

Condition of the syrup pitcher is excellent, with little or no wear to be seen. The dish has a definite wear pattern where the pitcher sits. There is also a light round stain at bottom of the rose stem, possibly syrup dripping over time?

We are offering a chocolate pot in the same pattern. It didn’t quite make a set with the syrup pitcher, and so is being sold separately, but if you like this mold and decoration, you may want to take a look at that piece as well (item#0473).

Note about Packaging: Due to our concern for the environment, we will re-use boxes and shipping peanuts that are in good condition. We take a great deal of care in packaging our items and will not compromise their safety in any way.
