Emerald green hand blown glass inkwell

We were first attracted to this inkwell because of the wonderful color, and then because of its almost liquid shape. It is hand blown, with a cut and smoothly polished pontil. The lid, a polished metal which we believe to be aluminum, has been machined to fit perfectly into the metal rimmed neck of the inkwell.

Based on the round, polished pontil and decoration of the glass, we’d like to attribute this to Whitefriars, but we have not been able to confirm that yet. We believe this dates to around 1930.

Condition of this piece is excellent, with just a little wear on the base. The lid has very minor surface scratches but no dents or dings. There are no chips, cracks or scratches in the glass. Because of the way the lid fits down into the collar, we believe this inkwell was not meant to have an insert.
