We have put many items on sale for Christmas--check us out!
Made of highly glazed porcelain, this inkwell features a hinged lid that is designed as a jockey cap with a thin, almost translucent bill. The burnt orange of the cap is decorated with gold, as are the similar colored horse shoes on the side. Berries, leaves and vines add embellishment. The shape is also rather unique, as the sides are molded so that the horseshoes are raised.
Condition is excellent. There are a few small spots where glaze has rubbed, but for the most part both glaze and gold trim are bright and strong. The hinge is in great shape and the lid closes tightly. Some of the plaster holding the collar onto the porcelain has traveled onto the collar. This inkwell has been used there are some ink stains inside. There are no chips, cracks or significant glaze loss. It measures about 2 square across the shoulder, and about 3 1/4 high.
Just think what a great gift this would be for your horse loving or inkwell collecting friend. Maybe you know someone who loves both!
