Every miniature portrait collection needs at least one Napoleon – and every Napoleon collection needs at least one miniature portrait. Here is a nice little miniature that is ready and willing to be a part of your collection.

It is a small miniature – the painting itself is just over 1 5/8” in diameter, while painting and frame together measure 3 3/4”. It is water color, painted on what we believe is ivory, although we have not taken the painting out of its frame to confirm that. There is a signature at 3 o’clock. The painting is surrounded by a simple metal rim; the frame is ebonized wood, shaped rather like a bowl which gives a shadow box effect. The back is covered by a darkened piece of newsprint or page of a book.

We believe this dates to the early 1900s. Condition is excellent. There is some minor rubbing on one spot at the top of the frame, but no scratches or chips, and both painting and glass cover are in perfect condition.
