We have put many items on sale for Christmas--check us out!
The Rosenthal mark on the base of the inkstand dates it between 1907 and 1953 we believe this was made in the 1920s or 1930s. The set is made up of an inkstand with attached inkwell and a blotter. The blotter has a porcelain screw, topped by the applied flower, which allows one to loosen the rocking portion and insert blotting paper.
The inkstand measures 8 3/4" by 3 3/4 and is about 2 3/4" to the top of the flower finial. The blotter measures about 4 1/4 by 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" to the top of the flower. Condition is very good, with a couple of exceptions. There is what looks like a small dent in the gold trim on the front rim of the inkstand. When viewed through a loop, it does look like a very shallow chip in the porcelain. The blotter has a shallow flake type chip underneath one corner of the top part. And when the blotter is taken apart, one can see chipping around the bottom section where the screw screws in and some chipping on the screw itself. These cannot be seen of course, when the blotter is assembled.
The applied flowers are still perfect, and all the gold trim is present. The small flaws are unfortunate, but really do not detract from the elegant beauty of this set.
