What better way to keep your name in front of the public than putting your candy in an age-enduring container such as a bank. Eat the candy, fill the bank up with pennies, and go buy some more candy!
Undoubtedly, this bank came from that plant in Connecticut. The bank itself is in very good condition, considering that it is most likely eighty to hundred years old. There is a bend to the roof as it folds over the top of the house. And there are the characteristic age scratches, corrosion and patina where paint has worn away.
Even so, the lithography is very detailed and cannot be truly appreciated without a magnifying glass. Take a close look at the pictures. The images are identical to the German version of this bank. Only the advertising is in English rather than German.
When opened, note that the cloth swatch covering the coin slot is still present. This has usually disintegrated with time.
This is truly a marvelous piece of history.
