Beginning in the early 1900s, J. Chein & Company produced many different banks for children. One of those was the Child Safe Bank. The example listed here is the medium size bank. It dates as early as 1910 to about 1921 and retailed for 10 cents.

The bank is made of steel with red enameled paint on the top, bottom and sides; orange on the door. Very few of these have survived kid burglars without dings, dents, scrapes and prying at the door. This one isn’t any different. But it remains a nice example of time gone by, when papa’s change might have bought the toy sailboat pictured on the front.
